Waste bin 17l: Helpful tips for choosing the right size

Published on May 11, 2022 from

Most waste is generated in the kitchen. Depending on the use and quantity, different containers are required. We offer our customers high-quality and flexible waste separation systems that are individually tailored to their needs. The waste bin with a capacity of 17 l is part of our systems. Find out here how to choose the right container size.

Which 17l waste bins are available?

The range of waste bins is endless. They are available as freestanding, built-in, pedal bins or with push-open lids. There is also a great variety in the materials used. They range from robust plastic to shiny stainless steel.

So it's no wonder that you might feel a little overwhelmed when faced with all this choice. Let us help you find the perfect waste bin for your kitchen.

Müllex: Your specialist for easy waste separation

Our range offers high-quality and well-thought-out waste separation systems. Depending on the model, they can be integrated into drawer slides or roller slides. We also offer systems for revolving doors and free-standing containers.

Thanks to the flexible and simple integration options, it is possible to change the waste bin even in an existing kitchen. Our systems are designed in such a way that they usually fit into existing drawer pulls.

What options are there with a 17l waste bin?

Consumers can choose between our three product lines:

  • X-LINE: This waste separation system is suitable for existing drawer pull-outs with a depth of 400 to 500 millimeters. The maximum body width is 900 millimeters. The selection ranges from a main container with 35 liters with a basic drawer to the premium version with several additional waste containers.
  • BOXX-R: Thanks to the pull-out included, this system is suitable for every kitchen. Here, too, you can choose between different container sizes and combinations.
  • ZK BOXX: It enables perfect integration into existing drawer pull-outs using insert trays and various additional containers such as the 17l waste bin.

What size trash can is needed?

Before you decide on a particular model, the question of size should be answered. Do you live alone or with your family? This is crucial for the daily amount of waste that is generated in your household. It is also the selection criterion for the size of the containers required.

The bigger the better: you're probably familiar with this saying. However, if you live in a small household with two people, a huge bucket is not necessarily the best choice. Ideally, a garbage bag should only be changed when it is completely full. However, there is a risk that sooner or later unpleasant smells will develop and spread throughout the room.

On the other hand, if there are many people in a household, a smaller waste bin will quickly reach its limits. Therefore, it is important to choose containers that suit your household.

How many people live in your household?

For small families of up to three people, a waste bin with a capacity of 10 to 30 liters is usually sufficient. For a family of four, however, a bucket with 30 to 40 liters is a better choice. Do you live in a household with five or more people? Then you will be well served with waste bins with a capacity of 40 to 60 liters.

Which rooms have waste disposal systems?

Our tips for the optimal size refer to kitchen waste. In the bathroom, things are more compact and a small bucket with a capacity of up to ten liters is sufficient.

We also have the right solution for your home office. Choose a free-standing waste system with a capacity of 40 or 60 litres.

Which 17l waste bin is suitable for waste separation?

Waste separation plays a very important role in Switzerland. It's easy to do with one of our waste separation systems. Sort the different types of waste into different containers as soon as they are created.

During processing, separate organic waste from packaging and/or paper waste. A waste bin with a 17-litre capacity and a lid is ideal for this. Plastic packaging, newspapers and similar items can be placed in larger containers.
For hygienic storage and easy disposal of different types of waste, equip each container with its own garbage bag. Our waste separation systems can also demonstrate their strengths here.

The X-LINE product line scores with a bag tensioning system that has been thought through down to the last detail. There is a spring-loaded tensioning finger in each corner. This makes clamping the fresh bag child's play. All X-LINE models not only take into account different container combinations and different sized waste bags. You can easily clamp 17 or 35 litre bags that comply with the Swiss standard.

Biowaste

Many users prefer special containers for organic waste. If you want to use your compost bin outside of the waste separation system, you can use our POT model. Its attractive design allows you to leave it permanently on the kitchen counter. Distinctive curves make it extremely easy to clean.

If you want to collect compostable kitchen waste in your waste separation system, a small waste bin with a 17l capacity is ideal.

What types of waste systems are there?

Waste collectors and containers can be divided into different categories. We have put together an overview of the different designs.

Waste separation systems

Our waste separation systems are a must in every kitchen. Different types of waste are generated here, such as:

  • Residual waste
  • Organic waste
  • Plastics and paper

The waste separation systems include containers of different sizes. Tightly fitting lids prevent odors from spreading in the kitchen.

Garbage bag stand

Garbage bags can be hung in these structures. The stands are particularly suitable for the hobby room or workshop. Some models are equipped with wheels and are therefore very mobile.

Wastepaper baskets

Paper waste is usually generated in children's rooms, work rooms or bedrooms. Therefore, wastepaper baskets with large openings are preferred in these rooms. If you want to dispose of paper tissues or similar items properly next to the bed, a wastepaper basket with a lid can be useful.

Cosmetic bin

Bathrooms and guest toilets are the preferred places for smaller, water-repellent and lockable waste containers. They are a hygienic way to dispose of cosmetic and sanitary waste. A capacity of ten liters is sufficient for this.

Table trash can

You rarely find a trash can in the living room or dining room. When eating in a social setting, a small table trash can can help keep things more tidy.

How do you clean a 17l trash can or other trash containers?

Cleaning the waste bins should be as quick and easy as possible. We therefore recommend that you provide each bin with its own bag of the right size. This means that the waste bins come into contact with dirt less often and are easier to clean. Hygiene is particularly important when it comes to the bins for organic waste.

To do this, use warm water and add a little dishwashing liquid. Use a brush to clean the container. Odors can be neutralized with a splash of vinegar. Do the same with the residual waste collector. If the dirt is stubborn, the inside can be soaked in hot, not boiling, water for around 30 minutes with the lid closed.

Waste bins with 17l and more cleanliness and order throughout the house

Our waste separation systems consist of various individual containers. They take in all the waste that is generated in the household every day. This means you can enjoy a tidy and clean house. If you would like to know more about our products, then write to us.
